About the department:

The Department of Geography is one of the premier departments of the college which starts its journey in 1996. The department is supported by a dedicated team of faculties who aim at effectively delivering general and honours courses in Geography under University of Gour Banga. This department is prominent for uniformly maintaining its standards of academic excellence over the years. The quality of students in the undergraduate programme is commendable. Well equipped laboratory, teacher student cordial relationship, regular field work, carrier counseling are the main characteristics of the department. The undergraduate programme in Geography specially aims at shaping the higher academic skills of the students. The members of the faculty are involved in serious academic research.

Activities:

The department organized U.G.C. sponsored national level seminar (2003), workshop (2005 & 2011) etc. Teachers are involved in research activities including Minor Research Project (U.G.C.) and conduct field work frequently in different parts of India. The department has an arrangement of Remedial Course funded by UGC for the SC, ST and minority students. Generally the members of faculty try to give best quality of education. The students are divided in to different groups and treated according to their need.

Achievements:

The department boast to have achieved many milestones in the last 15 years since it's inception.

1. Our students ranked first in the university level examinations in more than one occasions.
2. 95 of the students passed out from this department (till date) are well placed in different sectors of employment mostly in school, college and University.
3. Students of this department grabbed first prize on all occasions whenever they participated in the inter-department model exhibition cum competition.
4. Students from this department are very active in co-curricular activities such as sports, quiz, debate, performing arts etc. and bagged medals and awards at different levels of competition including state level.
