ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The department of History started functioning since the commencement of our College in 1944.From a very humble beginning in 1944, today it is the academically one of the richest Departments of the college including Post Graduate and Under Graduate (Honours & Pass) sections. The latest feather in the cap of the Department is the introduction of Regular Post Graduate Course in 2003. We have a Departmental Library with modern facilities like printed Journal, online Journal, different Newspapers and Magazines. The Department is served by dedicated and committed faculty members who are prone to enrich themselves by attending national and international conferences, presenting papers, attending various workshops. Faculty members are efficient in using Power Point Presentation to improve teaching methodology and to develop creative and innovative teaching style.   PARMANENT

ACTIVITIES:

The Department also organizes national level Seminar with international delegate participation funded by different bodies like UGC, ICSSR and ICHR for the academic enrichment of this region. The faculties are keen on initiating research and a number of minor projects are currently running in the department. Mr. Ashim Kumar Sarkar is principal investigator in one minor research project funded by UGC. Another UGC minor research project is in operation with Mr. Utpal Roy as its principal investigation. In every year an educational tour has been conducted by the Department to broaden the historical outlook of student. Guest speakers with expertise are invited, whenever necessary, to deliver lectures on specialized topics.

OUR STUDENTS:

We nourish cordial academic relation with our students .Our students are extremely dedicated and intelligent and we, as teachers can say that it is a pleasure to teach such excellent young minds and mould them for the future. Not only do they do excellently in academics – they participate in extracurricular activities as well, winning numerous glories and representing the college in the field of sports and performing arts.

ACHIVEMENT:

Our another outstanding achievement is the publication of “Exploring History”, a bi-annual journal of modern Indian and Asian history with ISSN nomenclature (ISSN 2230 – 8490) published by the Post-Graduate Department of History, Malda College. It is primarily a forum for the presentation of research studies on topics of interest to students of history, university and college teachers, research scholars, members of learned societies, and discriminating readers. Its contributors include scholars of repute, competent to write with authority on subjects of their choice as well as young promising scholars engaged in research and advanced study.
